In search of
an innovative and inspirational space, Nandik was formed in 1995 in Kalyani. A long,
chequered but happy journey started with the first production, ‘Anindita’,
written and directed by Partha Pratim Bhattacharya, and performed on December
25th, 1995 at Rittik Sadan, Kalyani. In 2009, Nandik was registered as Theatre Nandik
From January
2006, Theatre Nandik made its first move to become a theatre institution. Training
and regular classes were conducted on both practical and theoretical fields of
theatre. Such classes were not only conducted by the group's own members but
also by eminent theatre personalities. The dream was to expand the scope to
greater dimensions and techniques of theatre and to work together with other groups
as well. Classes ranged from on styles
of dance, music, physical acting, lights, sets, costumes to simple adda and
sharing of experiences.
In 2007, the
annual seminar on theatre, ‘Pradip Mukjopadhyay Smarak Baktrita Mala’ was
started as a tribute to the late founder
member, Sri Pradip Mukhopadhyay.
Theatre
Nandik has been able to keep its dream alive – to expand from a small group to
an active theatre organisation. We believe that theatre is a practice, a way of
life and young and old work and learn together presenting a complete experience
.
